Not exactly the most practical or long-lasting gift, but they are fun people (with 3 teenage boys!) so I ran out and got the "ingredients" to make one of my own. I had forgottten all about candy-grams, but actually my parents made a huge one for me in college (perfect when you live in a dorm full of girls too!), coming up with all the ideas on their own - they are both so clever and fun!
So since then, I have gone a little overboard with the candy-grams. I sent them to all of our college kids during finals week. I couldn't figure out (or remember) how my parents sent me a package that shape and size without spending a million dollars, so I tweaked it a bit by folding the card and just putting the candies in the box. I told the kids that they had to fill in the blanks with the candy- they did a good job!
I also had to come up with some gifts to give Drew's teacher from his class for teacher appreciation week. As part of it, I asked the parents to have kids make her a card, so Drew and I worked on this for his. Yeah, it kind of looks like I did it all, huh? ..but having him write it out would've taken forever, so instead he helped me pick out candies, put it all together, and of course sign it at the end.
I think I have worn out the candy-gram idea. With the help of Pinterest, my 32-year old self could probably come up with more useful gifts for people. But you never know, maybe I will keep it as my back-pocket, whip-out-when-in-need kind of trick.
